#309. Do The Ponzi

This afternoon, I was in the creative "building block" process of another Bernie Madoff parody.  He's dead.  So I google the song, print out the lyrics, and take it for my daily walk.

I could only vaguely remember the specific Happy Days episode when Leather Tuscadero spearheaded a spontaneously infectious jam at Arnold's.  But I do know one thing.  It was that rockin' Kumbaya moment when everyone suddenly embraced "Fonzie fanaticism."  Things were a little bit simpler back then, eh?

Damn!  Someone really needs to resurrect this shit.  Maybe with a deep fake Trump or a JuJu Smith-Schuster doin' the Fonz.  I dunno.  You tell me.  "Do the JuJu!  C'mon do the JuJu with me!"

But the lyrics just didn't seem right.  They seemed a bit "off."  Then again, I hadn't seen the episode in probably about 35 years.  And who the fuck am I to overly scrutinize "Winkler choreography?"

Long story short, some band known as The Young Fresh Fellows felt inspired to write a song about a song... which truth be told, portrayed this epic, albeit fictitious symbolization of leisure activity in the nuclear 1950's.  So this particular song parody is from their lyrics.  The Young Fresh Fellows.  Whom I'll reluctantly concede, sound like a fine crew of saucy chaps.

Just for the sake of sanity and posterity, I'll dig up the original "Do The Fonzie" lyrics and give it a shot tomorrow.

Dedicated to the late Ed Peck.  He was the actor who played the modern "Happy Days" equivalent of Derek Chauvin... the dreaded Officer Kirk.

Do The Ponzi
sonofsaf

Madoff’s not your friend
His crime was in the billions you know that’s for sure
It might be time to do the Ponzi
Yeah do the Ponzi
Yeah do the Ponzi
Do the Ponzi

There's a guy his name is Bernie fuckin’ rooni
From Manhattan and he loves the confetti
His job was hanky
His life was panky
As the world turned by he made us cry
Heeeey!
Do the Ponzi

Do the Ponzi
It's time to do the Ponzi
Once again do the Ponzi

He makes everyone sad…
Job was hanky
Life was panky
As the world turned by he made us cry
Whoah money-G
Ponzi, he's Bernie Madoffin’
It's time to do the Ponzi
He's Bernie Madoffin’
Bop bop-ba

Do the Fonzie
The Young Fresh Fellows

Meet me once again
It's time and I'm not gonna tell you any more
It might be time to do the Fonzie
Yeah do the Fonzie
Yeah do the Fonzie
Do the Fonzie

There's a guy his name is Arthur Fonzarelli
He's Italian and he likes his spaghetti
His hair is waxy
His bike is wacky
When the girls go by he has to cry
Heeeey!
Do the Fonzie

Do the Fonzie
It's time to do the Fonzie
Once again do the Fonzie

He blew up on his Dad...
Hair is waxy
Bike is wacky
When the girls go by he has to cry
Whoah Mrs. C
Fonzie, he's popular again
It's time to do the Fonzie
He's popular again
Bop bop-ba

Fun fact: Happy Days producers originally cast Anson Williams (Warren "Potsie" Webber) to play the role of The Fonz!  They liked his voice and wished to embrace a more musical direction.

Please do not share this information with Phonzie phans and phriends of The Young Phresh Phellows.
