#451. I Am From Wheeling

I'm gonna take a stab at a few songs about my hometown of Wheeling.  Not Arkansas.  Not Illinois.  Not Indiana.  Not Louisiana.  Not Missouri.

Straight outta West Virginia.  Huzzah.

And you know what that means.  Explicit lyrics warning regarding a few crusty bitches and a hand full of rag tags (mark :52).  Someone might wish to alert Tipper Gore, or at a bare minimum, Al.

I Am From Wheeling
sonofsaf

I wanted some Coleman's center part of town
Fish with bread separate’s the only way
Pappas Roast Beef and me got along
Got me some wings 19th Hole today

'Cause I am from Wheeling
(I am from Wheeling)
The neighboring states I stay far away
(I am from Wheeling)
And My Clubbin’s creamin’
(I am from Wheeling)
I know a preacher man who might be gay
I know a preacher man who's probably gay

The Wheeling Island makes people frown
Inbreds get laid you just can't deny
Captain Floating Ed’s it drank and drowned
The Eagle was fun but just don’t ask why

'Cause I am from Wheeling
(I am from Wheeling)
The neighboring states I stay far away
(I am from Wheeling)
And My Clubbin’s creamin’
(I am from Wheeling)
I know a preacher man who might be gay
I know a preacher man who's probably gay

Bleifus Tires are being sold
Their rubber is tragic so much dismay
I gave it a whirl, WAHA's okay
Grove DiCarlo's pepperoni hey
Square pizza yay

'Cause I am from Wheeling
(I am from Wheeling)
The neighboring states I stay far away
(I am from Wheeling)
And My Clubbin’s creamin’
(I am from Wheeling)

I know a preacher man who might be gay

More Than A Feeling
Boston

I looked out this morning and the sun was gone
Turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familiar song
I closed my eyes and I slipped away

It's more than a feeling
(more than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play
(more than a feeling)
And I begin dreaming
(more than a feeling)
'Til I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away

So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall as I wander on
As clear as the sun in the summer sky

It's more than a feeling
(more than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play
(more than a feeling)
And I begin dreaming
(more than a feeling)
'Til I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away

When I'm tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
And dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes and she slipped away
She slipped away

It's more than a feeling
(more than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play
(more than a feeling)
And I begin dreaming
(more than a feeling)
'Til I see Marianne walk away

Have I ever seen the band Boston?  I honestly can't say for sure.  If I did, it was at Star Lake.  For some reason, I have this vague recollection of them playing "Amanda" while I was hangin' on the lawn with my friend Amanda.

Crazy coincidence.  Yesterday afternoon, I was walking along the Allegheny River Walk and scribbling out the lyrics to "I Am From Wheeling."  Just as I walked by the ballpark's outfield, "More Than A Feeling" came across the PNC Park speakers.

I've only been to Boston once.  When I was a little kid.  I've seen the Patriots and Bruins on multiple occasions.  Even a few Red Sox games since the inception of MLB interleague play.  But I have absolutely zero desire to do a "tangentially-related" hard count.

Please do not share this material with residents of Wheeling, WV.
