#807. Political Space

I crossed party lines and voted for a Republican today (Bryan Whitaker for Shaler School Board).  The last time I can recall casting a ballot for a Republican was about 5 years ago in Wheeling --- Erikka Storch for WV House Delegate.  But that's mainly because I knew her and always liked her from way back in the late 80's/early 90's. 

Normally, in this day and age, I only vote for female Democrats and Independents (preferably minorities), in an effort to "even out" the way of things.  However, Mr. Whitaker greeted me at the polls, which is legal in Allegheny County, and made a convincing case.  The thrust of his campaign seemed centered around preparing high school kids for the real world... encouraging them to learn skilled union trades (plumbers, electricians, etc.).  And more importantly, discouraging the stigmatization that often comes with that line of work.

It was refreshing to see a younger candidate with an actual commitment and targeted objective.  As opposed to someone just spewing nonsense about critical race theory.  

Which brings me to the Youngkin/McCauliffe race for Virginia Governor.

If Youngkin wins tonight, it will signal that even though the Orange Prolapse was voted out, one can still build a political campaign model based on unsubstantiated fear and nonsense, conspiracy and gibberish.

Obama birtherism, Jewish space lasers causing California wildfires, Hillary Clinton running a child sex ring out of the basement of a DC pizza shop, Covid-19 vaccines causing autism, and never forget about Hollywood's most beloved actors like Tom Hanks.  Why?  Because they're all elitist, secret pedophiles who drink the blood of young children.  

My point is that the conspiracy theories are becoming more specific.  With the intention of making them appear more credible.  For example, in Maricopa County, Arizona... it wasn't enough to claim that Republican ballots were removed and destroyed.  Anyone could say that.  However, if you claim that in the dead of night, a radical political operative, stole X number of pro-Trump ballots, drove them an hour West of Phoenix to a chicken farm in Arlington, fed them into a wood chipping shredder, and then fed the paper remains to the 150,000 chickens who were all immediately incinerated in a horrific fire....

Well, now do you see?  Here's the proof!  The evidence is irrefutable.  There was a fire!  Joe Biden has the blood of nearly a quarter million chickens on his hands.  And even Mike Tyson agrees.

See?  Very specific.  Very detailed.  Lots of buzzwords to make things sound especially convincing.  And the more outlandish and bizarre, the more it gets your attention.  Instead of rinse, wash, and repeat.  It's just simply view, click, and share.  And oh yeah, send $$$.
