#662. Last Kiss

Our first* trek to Star Lake since Covid... and the show gets canceled.  Naturally, Paul Stanley tested positive just before they were about to open the gates.

Some of the younger kids were noticeably distraught.  But most of the crowd handled it in stride and shuffled back home to Beaver County or wherever.

"Destroy this place!  Burn it down!  God did NOT give rock'n'roll to you!"

My repeated suggestion to "torch the lot" fell mostly on deaf ears.

Oh, Burgettstown had a show for me
Paul Stanley got Covid you see
A cancellation, yeah they did what they should
No Detroit Rockin’ City near the town of Pittsburgh

We zipped out to Star Lake cause it wasn’t far
We traveled there in a small car
Before the show, rumor spread
Gene Simmons called, Paul Stanley was dead

We asked a cop, but he didn’t know shite
He had no regrets, the crowd was white
The ticket buyers, holes of an ass
Maybe a dream, Starchild had passed

Oh, Burgettstown had a show for me
Paul Stanley got Covid you see
A cancellation, yeah they did what they should
No Detroit Rockin’ City near the town of Pittsburgh

Some dude threw up, like an Orange Prolapse clown
But there was no Trump rally in town
The big lie growin’ in disguise
The day I learned that orange is the new white

Orange Prolapse is red, the colors changed instead
“Fuck the Trumpers, and their angry smiles“
Nobody knows, if we kissed our last kiss
China virus, left the tailgaters pissed
But it seems wrong and most certainly not right
No red blood, from Gene tonight

Oh, Burgettstown had a show for me
Paul Stanley got Covid you see
A cancellation, yeah they did what they should
No Detroit Rockin’ City near the town of Pittsburgh

Oh, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world

We were out on a date in my daddy's car
We hadn't driven very far
There in the road, straight ahead
A car was stalled, the engine was dead

I couldn't stop, so I swerved to the right
I'll never forget, the sound that night
The screamin' tires, the bustin' glass
The painful scream, that I heard last

Oh, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world

When I woke up, the rain was pourin' down
There were people standing all around
Something warm flowin' through my eyes
But somehow I found my baby that night

I lifted her head, she looked at me and said
"Hold me darling, just a little while"
I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss
I found the love, that I knew I had missed
And now she's gone, even though I hold her tight
lost my love, my life that night

Oh, where oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world

* We actually ventured out to Star Lake during the 2020 spring phase of the pandemic and went "hiking" (sight-seeing/gawking).  The venue was gated up with multiple No Trespassing signs.  But we sneaked in and scoped the place out.  Walked the vaunted "corridor" and hit up the main stage, waved to the invisibly adoring 20,000 fans and wandered throughout the backstage area.  Unfortunately there would be no encore.

Please do not share this material with Paul Stanley, Eddie Vedder, and/or former President Donald Trump.  Oh yeah, and Star Lake management.
