#194. Bring On The Yang Gang

Presidential contender Andrew Yang didn't fare particularly well in the crowded 2020 Democratic primary.  He finished in last place with a popular vote total of 160,231 and zero pledged delegates.  Compared to the eventual winner Joe Biden with 18,431,136 votes and 2,687 pledged delegates.

Great political trivia question:  Who won American Samoa?  The answer is Michael Bloomberg.  It's just an amusing anecdote since the guy spent over a billion dollars and was victorious in only one state, er uh, territorial island configuration.  However, it does shed some much needed light on Bloomberg's biggest fans.  His unwavering, hardcore base.

(Afa & Sika 4 Bloomberg)

Nonetheless, while a slew of candidates withdrew from the Democratic primary, Yang stuck it out til the bitter end.  And he did make some waves.  Calling for universal health care and demanding a minimum basic income standard.

And now he's running for Mayor of New York City.

The Democratic primary is scheduled for June 22, 2021.  So far, it's an unusually crowded field.  Currently at 40+ and expected to increase.  Let's just say that some of these candidates really put the "ass" in aspirational.

Though here's what's notable.  This year they'll be using "ranked voting" for the first time.  Obviously, with a wide array of candidates, Yang's strong name recognition will work to his advantage.  And you gotta figure that he'll be swingin' hard from the left.  Seems well positioned as the Big Apple Dems are likely gonna be turned off by the Governor Andrew Cuomo harassment charges and all the usual monster-bureaucracy.  Plus, the current swath of anti-Asian bigotry and China virus nonsense could actually help him obtain the sympathy/empathy vote.  Seems 2021 is just the right time for a fresh new face.

Long story short, I think Andrew Yang gets the win.  I'll be pitching in.  Not financially of course.  I'll be posting a series of ongoing "Yang Gang" musical parodies to demonstrate my support.  Feel free to fire up the karaoke machine and sing them at any future fundraisers or campaign rallies.  Will I be asking for compensation?  Uh, no.

Bring on the Yang Gang
sonofsaf

Our New York City’s a zoo, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
But the animal crap is alright
To a place in South Bronx practiced law out of, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
And Manhattan’s all white

He doesn’t complain, yeah (ho-ah)
O-oh, bring on the Yang gang (ho-ah)

Take a chance you know how I roll, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
LGBTQ and the views of the world
No Mickey Mouse this is Disney in hell, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
You’re hearin’ our cries not tellin’ us lies

You know he doesn’t complain, yeah (ho-ah)
O-oh, (ho-ah) bring on the Yang gang

So go take a knee
And give them a big fuck you too
Be sure to say please
Appreciation’s fun thank you

Well, stand up for the poor and the gay
Minorities are a part
Switched to Sanka today
So, uh, have a heart

Our New York City’s a zoo, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
A town that’s mired in ongoing strife
Like all hat and no cattle from the start, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
So take my wife and please keep us apart

Now he doesn’t complain, yeah (ho-ah)
O-oh, bring on the Yang gang (ho-ah)

Note: The South Bronx law firm is a Sopranos reference.  The Sanka reference... Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Back on the Chain Gang
The Pretenders

I found a picture of you, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
Well it hijacked my world at night
To a place in the past we've been cast out of, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
Now we're back in the fight

We're back on the train, yeah (ho-ah)
O-oh, back on the chain gang (ho-ah)

Circumstance beyond our control, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
The phone, the TV and the news of the world
Got in the house like a pigeon from Hell, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
Threw sand in our eyes and descended like flies

And put us back on the train, yeah (ho-ah)
O-oh, (ho-ah) back on the chain gang

The powers that be
That force us to live like we do
Bring me to my knees
When I see what they've done to you

Well, I'll die as I stand here today
Knowing that deep in my heart
They'll fall to ruin one day
For making us part

I found a picture of you, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
Those were the happiest days of my life
Like a break in the battle was your part, o-o-oh, o-o-oh
In the wretched life of a lonely heart

Now I'm back on the train, yeah(ho-ah)
O-oh, back on the chain gang(ho-ah)
